Restaurants, bars, retail, hospitality, and worship venues share a problem: many displays, many sources, and staff who need to change what is on which screen without training. Distributed AV solves it by centralizing sources in a rack and routing any of them to any display over the network.
AV over IP has largely replaced fixed matrix switching for this. Because distribution rides on standard network infrastructure, the system scales by adding endpoints rather than by replacing a switcher, runs on the same cable plant as everything else, and reaches any display anywhere on the network. It also means the network design has to account for it properly — this is not traffic you drop onto an unmanaged switch.
Zoned audio runs alongside it with independent source and volume per area: a dining room on background music, a bar on game audio, a patio on something else, and paging that overrides all of them. Level scheduling by daypart keeps the room appropriate without a manager reaching for a volume knob during dinner service.
Digital signage adds centrally managed content — menu boards that change by daypart, promotional displays updated across every location at once, and wayfinding that stays current. The operational requirement is that a manager can update content from a browser without calling anyone, and that a display which loses signal shows a fallback rather than a blue screen with an error code on it.
